THE CITY OF NANTES, A NEW URBAN BALANCE
Nantes has embarked on a journey toward sustainability for more than twenty years. This commitment is shown in the shaping of urban eco districts – neighbourhoods that present a more balanced approach to housing, green spaces and soft mobility.
Known as the "green and blue" city, Nantes reconnects urban development with nature, by preserving natural spaces and biodiversity. One example is Natura 2000, the only urban natural zone in Europe named “Petite-Amazonie” located in the heart of the city.
Nantes is home to over 100,000 trees and flowering plants about 3 hectares throughout the city. The use of chemical products is banned, rivers and streams are restored and protected. The well-groomed banks of the Loire and the river Erdre never cease to enchant visitors.
