Annual SETAC Europe Conference – May 2016

SETAC chose Nantes for its annual 2016 conference mainly due to the local presence of the Ifremer Institute, which, through its research work and expertise, contributes to a better knowledge of the oceans and their resources, helps monitor the marine environment and coastlines and the sustainable development of marine activities. Ifremer has played a particularly active role in Nantes, from a scientific viewpoint, over many years. This is one of the reasons for the success of the conference in Nantes… among others.

As Delphine Delire, in charge of Communication at SETAC, explains that what really made the difference it a number of reasons, starting from Nantes’ expertise to the professionalism of the teams at La Cité as well as the know-how of each person involved. “The team at La Cité was very friendly and helped us a great deal throughout the conference. It was clear that they were very motivated to make this event a great success” adds Delphine Delire.

The ‘Nantes’ approach to the city was a decisive factor for SETAC. “The main actors associated with the event were invited to a reception given at the City Hall in the presence of the Mayor. Overall, Nantes is an attractive city, unveiling hidden gems that delegates were thrilled to discover by foot. La Cité couldn’t have a better location, next to the TGV station and public transport, and close to the city centre. Lastly, the reasonably-priced hotels around La Cité enabled a large number of our members to attend”, continues Delphine Delire.
